Public Issues Leadership Development 2010
April 26 – 28, 2010

Marriott Key Bridge, Arlington, VA

Public Issues Leadership Development (PILD) will give you the chance to grow professionally and personally. Nationally recognized speakers, relevant breakout sessions and the opportunity to connect with others who work in our nation’s capitol are complemented by the opportunity for networking with peers from  across the United States.

Change equals opportunity and this year’s PILD Conference will allow you to focus on new opportunities in your Extension programming and volunteer work.  Examples of new partnerships, discussions on emerging issues, roundtables with  National Extension Program Leaders and sessions specific to the JCEP-member  organizations and volunteers will spark new ideas for you to use when you return home.

ESP members should check for scholarship opportunities that can be accessed from the Forms tab on the Home page of the ESP website. (The PILD, McKinney and Richard Angus Professional Development Scholarship could be potential sources of assistance to attend PILD for those who meet the qualifications.)

Check your Email Browser

As we are working to continue the transition of the National ESP office from Florida to Idaho it seems we keep having little unexpected challenges that keep cropping up to make life interesting.  The latest challenge has been with the ability to email the notices to all of our members with email addresses of items of importance such as the posting of the newsletter or the Communique.  The web host that was choosen for our website would allow us only 200 emails per day.  With nearly 3,800 email addresses by the time we spent nearly three weeks getting notification to everyone the information we wished to distribute would have been old news.  The alternative to this unacceptable option was for us to change our internet provider here in my office to another provider who has allowed us to send unlimited emails daily. The solution will require that we use a slightly different email address for sending out the bulk emailings.  Our bulk mailing email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Since we will be sending out such a large mailing, many systems will identify our mailings as spam.  I am asking everyone to check their junk mail for messages sent from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and to be sure to add This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it as well as This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to your safe senders list. We are sending this same request to chapter presidents so that they might contact their members through their internal email systems which have likely identified mailings from within their own state systems as being safe. I apologize for the inconvenience, but this seemed to be our best solution to the problem.  - Thanks for your patience as we strive to serve all of our members.

The Results  Are In

Ten chapters have reported the change in officers for the upcoming year.   Minnesota, Wyoming, Missouri, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, New York and Colorado have all reported their new slate of officers for 2010 using the website reporting system.  Using the new system will insure that the new officers will be getting the information they need to help have a successful term of office.  We would encourage all chapters to report the change in offices by going to the website select the "Forms" tab and then the "Chapter Reports" tab and complete the Officer Update Report.  Thanks to the Chapters that led the way in using the new tool. Congratulations to the new Chapter Presidents Todd Kesner in Montana, Marianne Papa in Nevada, Jan Carrol in Colorado, Marcia Woeste in Minnesota, Mary Martin in Wyoming, Mary Anne Patten in Missouri, Laurie Chandler in Kansas, Stefanie Hubert in New York, John Lilly in Florida and Sandra Duke in Texas.
